"We've been through some stuff," Ana García Perrote said to a packed crowd at the Paramount in Boyle Heights in Los Angeles this past Sunday. Perrote, one of the two lead singers of Hinds along with Carlotta Cosials, was perhaps burying the lede just a bit here.

Hailing from Madrid, Hinds has had a short but storied career, putting out excellent punk and garage rock albums since 2016, singing in both their native Spanish and in English. Hinds has indeed been through some stuff, and some of what Perrote was likely alluding to is the seemingly sudden departure of the band's rhythm section - Ade Martín and Amber Grimbergen last year.

Since then, Hinds released their fantastic fourth album in September, Viva Hinds. The record, their best to date, is full of punk rock and pop confections that range from making you want to get up and rage to hugging your best friend tight. The band enlists Beck on the lead single, "Boom Boom Back," that finds the band in a slinky groove and also features, and features the prescient, "The Bed, The Room, The Rain and You."

"This album is about getting back up," Perrote continued on stage at the Paramount. This was meant both figuratively and literally, as Perrote explained she had broken her foot just five days prior. Perrote played the show in a walker boot, and hilariously displayed the x-ray of her injury on the keyboard for all to see.

Broken bones didn't stop her and the band from letting out all those feelings of renewal and survival, though. Perotte and Cosials are now joined by Paula Ruiz and Maria Lázaro on bass and drums, and the band ripped through almost the entire new album, classic Hinds tracks, and a ferocious cover of "Spanish Bombs" from The Clash's incredible London Calling.

You could tell how appreciative the band was of an audience who were ecstatic to be there, singing along to just about every word off the new record. Hinds has indeed gotten back up, and the loving crowd was there with the assist. Towards the end of the show Cosials jumped into the crowd and the audience lifted her up so high she was practically flying, Perrote grinning the entire time on stage.
